Identify a Well-Designed Web Page

The web is, first and foremost, about content. But we cannot separate content from form. That is, the design of a page is as much a part of its content as the text and images on it. So, as we begin our exploration of web authoring, it's important for us to have a common language to discuss design.

The goal of this assignment is to use that common language to discuss the design of actual sites. But before we get to that, let's start with some intuition:

  1. Find a page you think is well-designed. This can be any page you know and visit, or it can be a page you happen upon while surfing something like Cool Homepages (http://coolhomepages.com).
  2. Comment to this Post and write a paragraph or two (or more) about the design. Essentially, answer the question "What makes this good?"
  3. When you comment, use your first name and last initial only.

First off, I went here: http://www.blackvelvet-design.com/

I kind of scrolled on down the page and liked how the design looked, it really caught my eye. The colors look nice together, red, black and white. Not only that, but the fun designs and stuff were nice to look at. Plus, the option to switch languages is a nice bonus.

I liked the design because it tells you about the web page and what they do to change it and update it regularly

The web page that I like is www.nfl.com. I really like this web site and how it is put together. I like how there are many different links that not only take you to different parts of the website, but there are also links that take you to other web pages as well. Another thing that I like about that website is that it has a menu bar and it has on its home page, it has a section with the top stories of the day. Also I like that it has a poll. One more thing that I like about the website is that it has videos on the homepage.

I web page that I visit is spoonyexpiremen.com. The site reviews various bad movies and video games. The page design alows for easy navigation.By having all links at the top of the page.On the main page their are the latest reviews and upcoming reviews. Now what makes this page good is the fact how this games and movies get ripped apart.

http://www.trinis.net/ is the site I looked at.

The design is effective in many ways. Aside from it looking pleasing, it also is very effective when it comes to functionality. There isn't any scrolling to get the information they are presenting you with, the images are very nice and clean, and the links to the other pages are displayed at the top of the site. The links are clearly labled and the headlines display what the information shows.

The web page I looked at(http://www.oldmind.us/omp.html) had many great interesting features. The backround was dark and mysterious. There was a movable logo design so you could better see a clickable window. All of his links have an urban design when u drag over them which is very appealing.

I think that myspace.com is a well designed website. The navigation bar at the top of the page makes everything easy to look at because everything you need is right in it. You can look at your frinds, your mail, your friend requests, your profile, edit your profile, and a lot more.
